The San Jose Mercury News in a recent editorial argues that California and the federal government should move to ban the substance BPA from products due to concern of injury and illness resulting form exposure to this chemical product.
We here at San Jose Injury Attorney blog applaud the San Jose Mercury News editorial board for taking a stand against BPA and for consumers, it’s a dangerous compound that should not be used in consumer products.
But first, in case you don’t know exactly what BPA is – bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical product or compound that has been used for a long time in plastics. But due to studies, both here and in Europe, that question the safety of BPA many countries and retailers have begun banning it from shelves and products. Germany, France, Denmark and Sweden have all taken action in one form or another to limit BPA. And Wal-Mart as well as Toys R Us have stopped selling baby bottles made with BPA.
The safety concerns stem from studies that have led, for instance, the National Institutes of Health and the FDA to express concern that BPA exposure in infants can lead to problems with brain development as well as breast cancer, prostate cancer, and other diseases.
It is time to protect the public and put an end to this dangerous chemical product.
