Traumatic Brain Injury Detection Device

Wouldn’t it be great if we had a device that could detect a traumatic brain injuryTBI or MTBI – right on the scene of a personal injury accident or fall?

Well, it appears the U.S. Marine Corps believe it would be pretty good too.

According to Biz Journal, the Marines have just awarded InfraScan a $2 million contact to develop just such a device.  And this is because traumatic brain injuries result in nearly 50% of combat related deaths, according to the military.

The contract is to develop a portable hand-held device that can be used on the battlefield to detect a traumatic brain injury, pinpoint the location of a hematoma, and assist in the treatment of brain injuries suffered by soldiers.

Of course if the device works out, it could also greatly assist EMTs in the treatment of personal injury victims at the scene of an accident.

When someone suffers a TBI or MTBI time is precious; the quicker a first responder can detect a brain injury and make a diagnosis, the quicker treatment can begin and in some cases life saving medicines can be administered.

So, a hand-held device that InfraScan is set to develop could help not only soldiers on the battlefield but personal injury victims as well.
