Brain Injury
Brain injuries or head injuries are a very serious problem in the United States in general and specifically here in San Jose area. The number of traumatic brain injuries that take place each year is staggering – over 1.4 million according the the Center for Disease Control and Prevention or CDC.
Many brain injuries cause death or permanent disability. And as a brain injury attorney in the San Jose area I understand the very serious nature of these injuries.
There are many causes for a traumatic brain injury or TBI. These include falls, a blow to the head, striking the head on an object, and when an object penetrates the skull.
Brain injuries are graded are ranked based on their level of severity - from mild – to severe.
According the CDC, most brain injuries that occur each year are mild in status. But that does not mean that these injuries are mild in nature. These brain injuries are often referred to as concussions, head injuries, and MTBI.
Brain injuries can impact a person physically, psychologically, emotionally, and cognitively.
Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (MTBI) symptoms include:
• amnesia for events immediately before or after the injury
• a period of unconsciousness or altered state
• headaches
• confusion
• dizziness or loss of balance
• blurred vision, ringing in the ears or a bad taste in the mouth
• mood or personality changes
• memory, concentration, or other cognitive problems
Representing drain injury victims can be difficult and frustrating. This is primarily because diagnostic testing and scanning technologies are often ineffective at correlating physiological signs with the symptoms of a mild traumatic brain injuries. And this difficulty can make proving a brain injury, MTBI, case difficult.
I have experience handling brain injury cases from both the plaintiff and defense perspective. This means that I know how bus and trucking companies will defend against these cases and where to find the evidence that can forcefully support your case.
